so why can we have laws to require car insurance but not health insurance? if everyone was covered it would be more affordable.

I think they probably will. If she doesn't have car insurance, she is really in trouble because it is required by law in Iowa.

Our hospital CAN'T turn people away or deny care.. we just have to write it off or try to collect what we can-- so we are having huge cut-backs.. lots of people are losing jobs or hours

Well, they can't refuse treatment if you don't have insurance. They were taken directly to the hospital after the accident. She didn't want to see a dr because of the ins. issue, but her kids insisted

It's SO backwards.. we won't help them with what they need to stay healthy.. but they can get help once they develop complications--(God forbid!)
